APGRD Notes
Described as "a modern version, based on Sophocles' original", the synopsis included in the programme notes describes an English prologue set in contemporary (1960s) Athens where an amateur theatre group have been rehearsing Antigone; an urgent meeting is called by the producer because the military junta have just banned all performances of Antigone and other classical Greek plays, but the majority of the cast decide to defy the ban and proceed with a full dress rehearsal of the Antigone - which constitutes the rest of the performance (in modern Greek).
