The APGRD archive and library collections are open to all visitors, by appointment.
Appointments are currently available on Mondays, although longer visits and alternative days can be accmomodated when necessary; please email us at least two weeks in advance to discuss options. A longer notice period is needed to arrange group visits.
Please note the APGRD is always closed on Fridays.
Summer 2026: enforced closure
The Ioannou Centre will be undergoing major building works from 14 July 2026 to 5 October 2026 (inclusive), if you had hoped to visit us during this time please contact us far in advance to see if anything can be done to facilitate access to the collections.
Information about your visit
- Our reference library is available to browse during your visit but archive items must be requested in advance. Guidance on how to find and request archive material will be sent on confirmation of an appointment.
- WiFi is available in the building via Eduroam.
- 3-pin (UK) sockets are available, please bring your own adaptors if needed.
- With the exception of bottled water, no food or drink is allowed in the Study Room.
- Pens are not permitted for writing notes (pencils provided).
How to find us
The APGRD Study Room is located on the first floor of the Ioannou Centre for Classical and Byzantine Studies. The Ioannou Centre is fully accessible but please let us know of any mobility requirements ahead of time.

The building's entrance is located near a red telephone box, opposite the entrance to St John’s College. On entering the building, please report to Reception which is located directly in front of you after the two sets of glass doors.
There is no departmental parking. There is public Blue Badge parking as well as standard pay and display spaces on St Giles.
Group visits
Groups of more than four are most welcome, but please provide us with extra notice to make arrangements. The APGRD can also offer tailored visits for classes or cohorts of students, but these must be arranged well in advanced and in consultation with our Archivist. Please email the APGRD to discuss group visits.
