The title page of the printed edition reads: An abridged English version of Sophocles' OEdipus At Colonos; written and adapted for Her Most Gracious Majesty, Queen Victoria and His Royal Highness, Prince Albert, by William Bartholomew, to the music of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. First performed in England at Buckingham Palace, February 10, 1848. Read by Mr Bartley, with a choir consisting of "a numerous and judiciously selected mass of voices, professional and amateur" (named: Mr Genge; Mr C. Beale; Mr Peck, and Mr Collete), accompanied by "Her Majesty's private band" with some members of the "Philharmonic orchestra". Directed by Mr Anderson.
