The Oxford Classical Drama Society will be joining forces with the APGRD to host a screening of Orestes, the 2021 Greek play, directed by former Oxford students Marcus Bell and Alison Middleton. Due to pandemic restrictions, the play was an entirely virtual production, combining ancient Greek and new translations with contemporary dance, live comedy and an original soundtrack. The film won First Prize in the Cameron Mackintosh Drama Fund’s Creative Digital Theatre Showcase, and it is a stunningly innovative example of what can be done with virtual theatre. This will be the first screening of the production since its digital premiere in April 2021. We are honoured to be joined by Marcus (co-director) and other members of the creative team for a post-screening discussion on their reflections and broader issues in the making of theatre performance in a digital age.
