Screenings of Purity (1916) and L' Esclave de Phidias (1917)
Pantelis Michelakis will be curating a Silent Cinema and the Classics event at 5.30pm on Friday 10 March in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building, St Hilda’s College.
Following an introduction by Pantelis Michelakis, two silent films - Purity (1916) and L' Esclave de Phidias (1917) - will be screened with a live musical accompaniment by Stephen Horne (BFI house pianist and a leading silent film accompanist).
The evening will conclude with a discussion led by Oliver Taplin with Sue Jones, Laura Marcus, Pantelis Michelakis, and Stephen Horne.
We are extremely grateful to the kind assistance of both the CNC (the Centre National du Cinéma et de l'image animée) regarding Purity, and to the BFI National Archives for the loan of L' Esclave de Phidias (1917).
