Single performance. 130 lines of the script were "deleted" by the American Academy of Dramatic Arts board of directors. The director Robert Klein claimed that the cuts were made over fears the piece would be deemed "pro-communistic", the American Academy denied this. It is reported that nine of the student actors resigned during rehearsals over fears that they would be associated with a pro-Communist play. Professor Johnson W. Fairchild, director of adult education at Cooper Union recited a prologue to the audience telling them that the play had been cut.
