Year:
1666
Notes:
Prose translation by Thomas Guyot. The King's imprimatur, 'privilège du roi' presents the translator also called Le Bachelier, as 'Maître ès arts en l'Université de Paris'. In the 1640s and 1650s, however, Guyot was tutor at the jansenist 'Petites Ecoles de Port-Royal', along with Nicole and Lancelot, before the 1656 dissolution. The play is prefaced by a dedication to the translator's nephew, singling out Les Captifs as a particularly edifying comedy, and a lengthy 'note au lecteur' on education.
