Volunteer

If you are interested in the study of performance history, classical reception studies, or a career in archives, volunteering at the APGRD is a great way to gain valuable work experience and an insight into a university research centre. We will always do our best to tailor the tasks to your area of interest and to the skills you wish to develop.

To discuss volunteering options, please contact us.

Our volunteers primarily work on the APGRD's modern productions database and our archival collections, learning how to research, catalogue, and preserve donated materials. Volunteers also help with the upkeep of our reference library, with the APGRD's many public events, and have opportunities to be involved in current research projects.

Where possible, we are happy to host interns from the Erasmus+ traineeship scheme - or equivalents - as arranged by the student's home institution in consultation with the APGRD.

Overseen by the APGRD Director, interns can expect an introduction to archive principles and practices and an insight into academic research centres, as well as developing their own research experience. We tailor the placement to the intern's area of interest and to the skills they most wish to develop, in addition to supporting them to be an active member of the APGRD's wider research and graduate community.

Please contact us us after consulting your home institution.

Selina, from Radboud Universiteit: "I spent four great months at the APGRD assisting in the daily workings of the centre. I had the opportunity to re-catalogue parts of the Abd'Elkader Farrah collection, prepare visual and textual materials for the final chapters of the multimedia Agamemnon ebook, and aid with the organisation of public lectures, workshops, and colloquiums" (Erasmus+ Traineeship, 2022).

Martino, from Università di Bologna: "I had the great opportunity to spend two months as an archive-assistant. I was trained in the APGRD catalogues and performance database, and in preserving archive materials. I assisted with APGRD events and had the pleasure to help with the testing and proof-reading of their ebook. Moreover, working in the archive helped me with the preparation of my PhD proposal on the Bacchae on the contemporary stage" (Erasmus+ Traineeship, 2020).
