This opera was informed by the operatic reform proposed by Algarotti (see Production ID 9838) and it contains dance as part of divertissements (a series of dances and choruses). Another production of the revised opera took place at the Opéra in 1775 (see Production ID 10837). The first production of Wagner's adaptation of the opera in German took place at Dresden in 1847 under Wagner's baton (Production ID 10838). The first production in England took place in Oxford in 1933 (Production ID 5111). Notable modern productions include: Florence in 1950 (Maggio Musicale Fiorentino production with Boris Christoff as Agamemnon); Milan in 1959 (La Scala production with Boris Christoff as Agamemnon and Giulietta Simionat as Iphigénie); Salzburg in 1962 (Salzburg Festival production with Chista Ludwig as Iphigénie); Drottingholm in 1965 (Elizabeth Söderström as Iphigénie); Vienna in 1987 (Vienna Staatsoper production conducted by Charles Mackerras); London in 1987 (Spitalfields Festival production conducted by Richard Hickox, with Isabelle Poulenard as Iphigénie and John Aler as Achille); Glyndebourne in 2002 (production conducted by Ivor Bolton, with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightement: see Production ID 5569).
