Production notes:
Aulus Gllius (6.5.7) discusses a performance of Sophocles' Electra at Athens in which the 4th-century actor Polus played the part of Electra, holding an urn containing his son's ashes. The performance dates allow for this performance to have taken place at some point in the later 4th-century BC or very early 3rd century. It is assumed here that the performance took place in the theatre of Dionysus.
