Production notes:
The evidence for this performance is late and anecdotal. Aelian (14,40) records that Alexander of Pherae had left the theatre in shame after he had been brought to tears by Theodorus' performance of Aerope. The date range given for this performance are therefore cover the period of the rule of Alexander, tyrant of Pherae. The same anecdote is also recorded twice by Plutarch but he does not name the actor and says that it was Euripides' 'Trojan Women' which was being performed, see production ID17.
