Production notes:
We do not know when this play was first performed. It is alluded to in Aristophanes Clouds (1370-3) and therefore must have taken place before the production of that play in 423 BC. The date range for performance given here therefore ranges from the time of Euripides' first competition (see Life of Euripides) to 423 BC. The location for this performance is unknown but Athens seems likely since Aristophanes assumes the audience's knowledge of this play when he alludes to it in the Clouds (1370-3).
