We are not sure of the dates that Spintharus was active as a tragedian. There is a reference to him in Aristophanes' Birds 762, produced in 414 BC. The date range given here is therefore arbitrary, giving a 10-year margin either side of 414 BC. No fragments remain of the Semele Keraunoumene (Semele struck by a thunderbolt), but we learn that it was one of Spintharus' tragedies from the entry in the Suda.
