Production notes:
We can infer from the evidence of: Life of Aeschylus (27), Plutarch's Cimon (8,8), IG II² 2325 I, and the Marmor Parium (56) that Aeschylus was beaten by Sophocles in 468 BC and that it was Sophocles' first time competing in the Dionysia. According the Pliny (Natural History 18, 65) Triptolemus was produced 'about 145 years before the death of Alexander'. This would put the date of production to 468 BC. Triptolemus was therefore one of the plays that Sophocles produced in his first competition when he beat Aeschylus.
